Wissenschaftsladen Wien - Science Shop Vienna

Vienna, Austria

http://www.wilawien.at

Established in 1991, the Science Shop Vienna is a non-university based science shop conducting research on behalf of non-profit organisations, such as charitable organisations, action groups, local authorities and civil initiatives, and on their needs and demands.

The Science Shop Vienna is pioneering issues such as housing-related empowerment, the situation of student moms, and the online communication of NGO’s, which are taken up thereafter by major Austrian research institutions and political parties.

The research focus is on
- information & communication technologies,
- women and gender studies and
- science studies.

The staff members have expertise in social sciences and the humanities. The research approach is preferably interdisciplinary and, if feasible, integrates non-scientists on an equal footing.

Some of Austria's most famous scientists and researchers serve on the Science Shop Vienna's advisory board.
